Unfortunately, due to heavy thunderstorms, not here, but in Germantown, MD where our satellite provider, Hughesnet, uplinks the signal we had no service in time to allow for the regular weathercast. Without full speed sat service we can’t upload the files needed and can only deal in short text.

WINTERGREEN MOUNTAIN : WFD Responds To Fully Engulfed House Fire

NCL has confirmed that units from the Wintergreen Fire Department responded to a fully engulfed structure fire on Tanner’s Ridge Sunday night around 8:30 PM. We have since been told it was just off Laurel Springs Drive. The house may have been hit by lightning.
Investigators are on the scene to definitelydetermine how the fire started.

BEECH GROVE : Sparrow’s Cafe Opens In Village At Glen Mary

Folks above pick up a to go order at the newly opened Sparrow’s Cafe in Beech Grove. The restaurant and coffee shop opened last week. It’s located behind Devil’s Backbone Brewery that’s under construction near the intersection of Route 151 and 664 in the vicinity of The Ski Barn on the way to Wintergreen Resort.

The restaurant and coffee house, complete with Wi-Fi wireless for internet, is in the recently reconstructed Old Arrington Train Depot. You can click here for more history on the old depot.
The Suazo Family, owners of the cafe, hustle to prepare food for the crowd showing up this past weekend.

WINTERGREEN : Founders Vision Overlook Dedicated

Saturday was a chilly, sometimes cloudy morning as The Wintergreen Nature Foundation honored the individuals whose vision shaped the Wintergreen community. Our Christina Kline attended the dedication and sent back these pictures from the ceremony.
Above (center), LF Payne makes the dedication official by cutting the ribbon. He is surrounded by Ed Morrissett, Gary Green, Dr. Byron Cooper (geologist who did his doctoral work mapping out Wintergreen’s geology)
According to TWNF:
“The Nature Foundation constructed an exhibit celebrating the insight of Wintergreen’s founders, forever reminding the community that the nature of Wintergreen is its greatest asset. This exhibit gives visitors an interpretive tour of the natural beauty found at Wintergreen a midst a garden of native wildflower, ferns and shrubs. The overlook on Wintergreen has been known as the Wintergreen Overlook, after May 10th, 2008 this overlook will be renamed Wintergreen Founders Vision Overlook.”
After the dedication a reception followed at The Trillium House.
